چکیده

This paper presents a new methodology to model the nearground short-range propagation loss in forested areas at the VHF and the UHF band. The path loss modeling is performed by an integration of the foliage induced effect and the effect from the radiowave reflection/reflections. The analysis shows that the reflection from the dense tree canopy is important for short-range propagation at the VHF band and therefore, cannot be ignored. When taking into consideration the contribution from the possible tree-canopy reflection, the modeled path loss is reduced by more than 15 dB in the VHF band. A good agreement of the modeled path loss with the measured loss in tropical forested areas is achieved.

With the rapid growth of indoor wireless communication systems, the need to accurately model radio wave propagation inside the building environments has increased. Many site-specific methods have been proposed for modeling indoor radio channels. Among these methods, the ray tracing algorithm and the finite-difference time domain (FDTD) method are the most popular ones. The ray tracing approach ...

Measurements and Modeling of Path Loss over Irregular Terrain for Near-Ground and Short-Range Communications

In this paper, radio wave propagation over irregular terrain is investigated in 200–600MHz (VHF/UHF band). Measured results are compared with different path loss models such as Fresnel knife edge diffraction and uniform theory of diffraction (UTD). It is shown that, for low antenna heights, using a combination of the two-ray path loss model and knife-edge diffraction, great improvement in path ...

Further Study of Rainfall Effect on Vhf Forested Radio-wave Propagation with Four- Layered Model

In this paper, rainfall effect on the VHF radio-wave propagation in a tropical forest is further studied in details. Theoretical study and experimental investigations are performed with the help of a four-layered model for forested environment. It is found that the lateral wave traveling along the air-canopy interface, the direct waves, and the ground reflected waves are the main modes for VHF ...

The Role of the Sky and Lateral Waves on Propagation in Forest Environments

Propagation of elertromagnotuwaves in forest environments at mefiium and high radio frequencies is examined for the case where both the transmitting and receiving points are situated within the vegetation. A conductive slab in the presence of a reflecting ionosphere is employed to describe the forest configuration and this model is further simplified by disregarding the ground-forest interface....
